biography
Sydney-born, New Zealand–based violist Tal Amoore is a versatile and imaginative musician whose work spans chamber music, orchestral performance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. A passionate advocate for the vitality of chamber music in Aotearoa, he is a member of the Antipodes Quartet, the 2025–2026 Fellowship ensemble of the New Zealand String Quartet in partnership with Chamber Music New Zealand and the Adam Chamber Music Festival.
Tal has appeared at leading festivals across New Zealand and abroad, including the At the World’s Edge Festival, Whakatipu Music Festival, British Isles Music Festival, and Adam Chamber Music Festival. His artistry has been recognised through the Royal Over-Seas League Pettman Scholarship, supporting performance and study in Europe.
A dedicated chamber musician, he has performed alongside artists and ensembles including the New Zealand String Quartet, Jupiter String Quartet, Ioana Cristina Goicea, Anthony Marwood, Benjamin Baker, and Alexi Kenney. Deeply engaged with new music and musical storytelling, he has premiered and championed works by New Zealand composers including Salina Fisher and Gareth Farr.
A committed orchestral musician, Tal performs regularly with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and has served as Guest Principal Violist with Orchestra Wellington, the Hawke’s Bay Symphony Orchestra, and the Nelson Symphony Orchestra. He was previously Principal Violist of the New Zealand National Youth Orchestra and has collaborated with NZ Opera, Wellington Opera, and the Royal New Zealand Ballet. He has appeared in New Zealand’s major national competitions, including the National Concerto Competition and National String Competition (semi-finalist, 2024).
Tal will commence postgraduate study in 2026 at the Royal College of Music. He completed his Bachelor of Music at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music, studying with Gillian Ansell and Peter Clark, and has received additional guidance in masterclasses with Yura Lee and Natalia Lomeiko.
